Physical and chemical methods of quartz sand purification

At present, the main methods of purifying quartz sand in sand washing plant can be divided into physical methods and chemical methods.
 
The main physical methods of quartz sand purification are washing, classification, desliming, scrubbing, magnetic separation, flotation and ultrasonic method etc.

The main chemical methods of quartz sand purification are acid leaching and complexation.
The acid leaching method is based on the fact that quartz is insoluble in acid (except HF) and other impurity minerals can be dissolved in acid solution, thus further purification of quartz can be realized. The complexation method is to use quartz powder after acid leaching, the acid can form coordination compounds with impurity ions in the solution, so that the impurity ions in the solution can be further removed.
Both physical and chemical methods play an irreplaceable role in the whole process of quartz sand purification. In sand washing plant, physical methods such as  washing and classification, desliming, scrubbing, magnetic separation, flotation and ultrasonic method are often used to remove most impurities, and then chemical methods such as acid leaching and complexing are used to further remove trace impurities in quartz sand. But the acid used in chemical methods has serious pollution to the environment, which requires us to seek a new, pollution-free purification method. Combining with the professional knowledge of chemistry, physics, mechanochemistry and electromagnetic chemistry, the research on the purification technology of high purity quartz sand is an important development direction in the future. With the development of economy, the beneficiation and purification of quartz sand has very important economic and social benefits.
