Purification of quartz sand by ultrasonic

In the sand washing plant, the use of ultrasonic for iron reduction and purification of quartz sand has achieved good results.
Ultrasonic is a kind of sound wave propagated by media. It has mechanical energy. In the process of propagation, it will cause interaction with media and produce various effects (mechanical effect, thermal effect and hole effect).
When the crushing head of ultrasonic acts on the liquid, the liquid changes and produces pressure or tensile force. When the tensile force reaches a certain strength, cavitation occurs and numerous small bubbles are formed. These bubbles are compressed with ultrasonic vibration and the pressure decreases.

When the bubble reaches the critical value (the critical value determines the frequency of the ultrasonic wave), these bubbles will burst and produce a huge pressure, which will make a violent impact on the solid particles in the liquid. Under this violent impact, the trace impurities or water spray film on the particle surface will quickly peel off from the particle surface, and become fine suspended solids and separate from quartz sand under the action of dispersant. After ultrasonic treatment and washing, the purity of quartz sand is greatly improved.

Some experiments show that the 0-15mm raw quartz sand containing 0.12% Fe2O3 and 99.42% SiO2 can reach 0.01% Fe2O3 and 99.8% SiO2 by ultrasonic treatment , and the recovery rate is more than 99%, reaching the standard of optical glass sand.
